Formal Sppeedwear – “Hit ‘n’ Run”
Gaining local love on the UK radio rotation, Formal Sppeedwear siphons directly from the synapses of the electro-shock nerve center of ‘80s New Wave. Torn between the twin poles of Talking Heads and Devo, the band’s latest single rides the bluster of stutter-stop rhythms and frayed ‘n fragmented guitars. The strings and sticks bounce off the rubberized bass, the only thing holding the track to the surface. There’s a neon saturation to “Hit ‘n’ Run,” a feeling soaked in ‘80s airwaves, but born from the catacombs of art school smart alecks, the kind of cut that became a hit in spite of itself. The single follows the band’s debut EP and another standalone sizzler from earlier in the year. The single is out now from Melodic.
