Billy Tibbals – “Dream Away”

Another single from the upcoming Billy Tibbals EP finds the West Coast crooner in full fawning grace. Tibbals has long been circling the power pop and glam stores of the ‘70s, but here, he goes full Bowie, slipping away from his usual Sparks saunter with an opulent number that pits piano against a swell of strings powerful enough to keep the engines burning all the way to Mars. Naturally, the video for “Dream Away” finds Tibbals bejeweled and haloed on stage, already a pop presence that can be felt. No slight on the Twigs, but if you were to slip this single in amongst the the current batch of Lemon Twigs singles and swapped the tags you’d net a hundred comments declaring it their best yet. Tibbals should most certainly be making more waves, perhaps this is the single to cement his sterling sway. The new EP, Nightlife Stories, is out April 26th from Silver Arrow Records.
