Whitney’s Playland – “Mercy”

Every single out of this upcoming Whitney’s Playland album is a gem. The band, comprised of members of Blades of Joy, Grandma’s Boyfriend, and Modern Charm, have crafted an album that’s practically a love letter to the fuzzed, faded, and frayed ends of the ‘90s. While a few of their early singles saw fit fade between the fog, there’s a more pronounced bite to “Mercy.” A soft kick of distortion pulls it further toward the fire, in contrast to the bulk of the album’s cool water quiver. Sounding like a lost Breeders cut, the song fizzes to perfection, an excellent last tease before Sunset Sea Breeze arrives on March 17th from Meritorio.
