Vetiver – “White Fence Round House”
The layers of this ambitious, and frankly necessary, tribute to Neal Casal continue to peel back. Today another cut arrives, with Vetiver’s Andy Cabic giving Casal’s “White Fence Round House” a breezy treatment. Vetiver’s version retains the melancholy depths of the original, but with a slightly more country bent, sliding towards sundown hues the song feels a bit more elegiac than the original’s almost crushing beauty. The tone falls in line with Vetiver’s recent Up On High, pairing sigh-streaked slides with perfectly understated backing from the band. The tribute album, Highway Butterfly, is out November 12th and features an impressive lineup of fans and friends including Fruit Bats, Beachwood Sparks & GospelbeacH, Hiss Golden Messenger, Mapache, Phil Lesh, Susan Tedeschi & Derek Trucks, J Mascis, Tim Heidecker, Cass McCombs, and a ton more interpreting 41 of Neal’s beloved, but often unheralded tracks. There are a wealth of formats over at the Neal Casal Music Foundation.
