Tony Jay – “Spring’s Faultless Father”

Site favorite Michael Ramos returns under his shadowy altar ego Tony Jay. With a head full of the softer side of the Japanese underground and Les Rallizes Dénudés and Shizuka in the headphones, Ramos and an expanded lineup offer up one of their most pillowy recordings yet. “Spring’s Faultless Father” employs more beat than usual, but it still gets its chords caught in the cotton n’ cloud aesthetics that the band has made their own as part of the Bay Area’s denizens of bucolic pop, a gathering that includes fellow froth merchants Cindy, April Magazine, and Flowertown. The cut strums through the softer moments of Galaxie 500 but sticks its landing into the tape-hiss hues of those Japanese folk forebears. The new album ws originally available on the merch table for their recent tour of Japan, but it slips out digitally now as well. Check out Faithless from their Bandcamp and wind down the week right.
