Tobacco City – “Bougainvillea”

The new Tobacco City hits the bittersweet bars, streaking the Chicago outfit’s country with rain. “Bougainvillea” matches its tender ache with the video’s midnight creep through the city, full of dark florals and fogged headlights. The band turns their gaze from the grit of the American landscape — the back rooms and broken down bars, back alleys, and cheap apartments — and instead lend a rosy haze to the most melancholy of memories. The band’s been instrumental in the new wave of Cosmic Country, and the deep sighs and softly slung harmonies on “Bougainvillea” prove exactly why. The new record, Horses, is out March 8th from Scissortail Records.
