The Toads – “Ex-KGB”

Another great single from Aussie outfit The Toads. The band features members of RSTB faves The Living Eyes, Smarts, Parsnip, and The Shifters. While there’s a certain ragged thread that can be pulled from those bands to The Toads, the record scuttles the punk pacing for a shaggier appeal, that might hook in Terry or early Dick Diver fans. “Ex-KGB” jangles with a wobble and a paranoid bite, letting Elsie Retter’s drums tattoo a jagged treasure map across the listener’s mind, dragging ropey bass and dented sax lines along with it. The band’s debut, In The Wilderness, is out June 9th from Upset The Rhythm and Anti-Fade.
