The Rishis – “Coloring”

While it’s a day of celebration and remembrance I’m going to go ahead and keep things connected to the E6 collective. The members of The Rishis have roots with Elephant 6 and Cloud Recordings. Their last album August Moon, was released via the label in 2022 and the band members have found themselves cropping up in various arms of the collective, from Neutral Milk Hotel, The Apples in Stereo, The Olivia Tremor Control, to Elf Power, and the Sunshine Fix. The band’s latest works its way out via the always excellent Primordial Void. The first single is finds the band expanding their core, building a full band around the songs of Ranjan Kumar and Sofie Lute. “Coloring” caresses the edges of country, but keeps things pop, blending strums, brass, and a sauntered swing with Kumar’s plaintive delivery. It’s an utterly beguiling beginning to the new album. The single’s out now with a new eponymous album to follow in February from Pimordial Void.
