Sunfruits – “Better Off Dead”

Another sterling single out of the Sunfruits camp arrives today in anticipation of their upcoming debut LP, One Degree. Still steeped in the psych-pop that the Aussies have dug into on previous EPs, but this time the band push themselves further into the mirror-ball daze of dance. “Better Off Dead,” embraces a propulsive strain of Britpop, adding a baggy beat bubbling underneath the song’s Eastern clash of guitars that ensconces their sound somewhere between Stone Roses and early works from Temples. Layers of vocals and a liquid-light drip of synth push this one into a radio-ready ripper with a dark undercurrent, focusing on the feeling of helplessness in the face of climate collapse. Sunfruits’ debut is out April 28th on Third Eye Stimuli and Earth Libraries.
