STREET FRUIT – “Drug Face”
Been keeping an eye on this L.A. band after I came a bit late to their last album. The quartet ramps up for a new LP on West Coast label, Slouch Records with first single “Drug Face.” The album opener digs its heels into some garage-psych grit in the first half, but in a nod to its subject matter, the tracers get a bit longer as the track lingers on the speakers. The atmosphere turns cold and clammy as the track wears on, the humidity climbing towards a saturation point. The bass climbs the walls and a dose of acrid smoke slips out of the amps by the time the track tumbles to a close. It’s a corroded creeper that’s better each time it rolls ‘round. The new album, Strange Tanks, is out August 15th from Slouch.
