Smote – “Hauberk”

Avatar

Another killer out of Rocket Recordings this week. The label lets out the first taste of the debut from Newcastle band Smote. Finding a nice niche between some of their labelmates – culling the rhythmic underbelly of Lay Llamas, the psych-folk smoke curls of The Holy Family, and the ‘70s flute fusions of Goat, “Hauberk” rises from the pyre in a ceremonial plume. The song starts calm and cloistered, rustling in the winds before a mountainous storm of guitar lets loose like a deluge from the heavens. The new album Drommon arrives from the label October 1st. Check out another psychedelic video wormhole from the label’s John O’Carroll above.
