Semi Trucks – “Lou and Edie”
With a bump or two in fidelity, West Coast indie outfit Semi Trucks swap Meritorio for PPM, divining the damage of grunge rather than indie pop on their latest single. “Lou and Edie,” adds a half ton of crunch to the band’s sound, slipping shod of the obfuscation that marked the band’s earlier work. While the vocals hit the Venn diagram for a nasal narrative with The Hold Steady, the band isn’t going for aughts indie, instead swimming through the static with late ‘80s and early ‘90s college radio killers, toughening up their sound for their studio debut. The first album was a bedroom ripper, but with Robbie Cody (Wand, Pink Trash Can) behind the desk Georgia Overdrive works its way towards a bigger footprint. The new record is out April 25th from Post Present Medium.
