So far the upcoming singles for Scott Hirsch’s Windless Day have offered a nice crossection of the influences that make up the record. With his pre-dawn JJ Cale cool coursing through “Much Too Late,” and the big stage saunter of “Spirit True” getting the horn section anchored to a winking groove, it’s the perfect time to bring down the lights and let Hirsch’s country soul shine through. The back porch aura of “Dreamer” is a lovely sendoff for a great week of music around here. The song pairs an afternoon ease with some smears of pedal steel and a shiver of background vocals. The simplicity of the song belies its ability to hold on and heal. This has been one of my most anticipated records for the year and it’s lovely to hear it unfold. The record is out October 8th on Scott’s own Echo Magic Records.
