Ryli – “Medicine Speed”

More good news out of the Bay Area today, with news of a debut LP from Ryli. The band popped up here before with an EP that set the scene for the band last year. Sweetly stung and bucolically bittersweet, the band brings together quite a few West Coast faves under one banner; Yea-Ming Chen (Yea-Ming & the Rumours) leads, with guitarist Rob Good (The Goods), and the rhythm section Luke Robbins (Yea-Ming & The Rumours, R.E. Seraphin) and Ian McBrayer (ex-Healing Potpourri). Like the EP, whose A-side slips into the tracklist, the new LP is packed to pop perfection. Chen’s vocals are draped in lamplight, smoke, and ennui. The band churns the pop waters beneath her, jangles and organ swells swapping seats of prominence while the drums dance their way out of the speakers. The new record, Come and Get Me, sets itself up as a promising debut, and one that should be at the top of your lists this year. The new album is out June 27th from Dandy Boy.
