Population II – “Le thé est prêt”

A familiar name resurfaces today. The last time that Population II showed up on the horizon here they were nestled among the extended offerings at Castle Face. Now, the band is back with their third album, Maintenance Jamais, and a new single that slips through the swampy waters of prog. With a chugging backbone that tips towards German Progressive’s propulsion, and with a bit of garage grit caught in its teeth. The band also catches just a glint off of the Canterbury cadre, feeling like Soft Machine and Steve Hillage were in the headphones before this album took shape. The first single is a supple, yet singed, vision of prog that plays well to the band’s slinking psychedelic core. It crops up on new album, out March 28th from Bonsound.
