Pearl Charles – “Just What It Is”

Too many singles to count today, and nothing but gold in the mix. Site favorite Pearl Charles has been on a sterling streak leading up to her new album Desert Queen. The latest single is streaked in twilight and a light layer of fog. As much as her dance floor fillers are abundant, this album has seen Pearl offer up a bounty of late night comedowns, full of quiet contemplation, curling like smoke towards the lamplight. The new song fits neatly in that arena, a wistful repose about coming to terms with the past.

Pearl sums up the song nicely, noting ““Just What It Is” is a song about self-forgiveness and accepting your past, allowing it to live in harmony with your present. Rather than running away from our painful memories, letting them to be part of who we are and not blaming ourselves for our experiences. A wistful tale of days gone by and small town parades viewed from train car windows set to a sparkling folk sonic image with soft focused vaseline-lensed vocal harmonies, the tune allows you to drift away into your mind, without the weight and darkness of the past hanging over you.” The new album Desert Queen is out at the end of the month from Pearl’s own Taurus Rising Records.
