Nathan Bowles Trio – “Our Air”

Another softly devastating new single from Nathan Bowles Trio is out this morning. The new outfit features Bowles alongside double-bassist Casey Toll (Jake Xerxes Fussell, Mt. Moriah) and drummer Rex McMurray (CAVE). “Our Air” finds the trio deep under the canopy of jazz-flecked folk. Bowles’ banjo snakes around the soundfield, a comfortable companion to guest flute from Skylar Gudasz. The overcast tones are reflected in Evan Morgan’s accompanying video — rife with autumn’s end and damp decay. The cut pulls at the listener, ferreting out a mass of melancholy with its humid grace. The new album, Are Possible, is out July 26th from Drag City.
