Meatbodies – “Hole”
New single “Hole” finds Meatbodies back in fine form. After their last album took a bit of a lighter, less saturated approach to their sound, the band is back in the arms of fuzz and froth once more. “Hole’ is a 6+ minute monolith of psych, synth, and rumble. With a bit of a Pumpkins nod, the song balances the heavy ballast of guitars with delicately hazed vocals. Given enough volume, the single ought to rattle the sternum and reset the brain. Definitely give it that volume and lay back into the band’s cathartic cocoon. Meatbodies have often stood in the shadow of their collaborator Ty Segall, but this one feels like a pretty clean break with the past. Gauzy and glazed, the new single is pushing into shoegaze with a confident swing, nipping at Ride and Medicine and ditching some of their former signifiers in the process. The new album, Flora Ocean Tiger Bloom, is out via In the Red on March 8th.
