Mapache – “I Love My Dog”

RSTB faves Mapache return quickly after their covers album from late last year with a new full length slated for June. The upcoming album, Roscoe’s Dream, pays tribute to Sam Blasucci’s dog and that fondness soaks right through the first single, “I Love My Dog.” The winsome strummer, a sunny afternoon respite, is an auburn hued encapsulation of what Mapache do best. There’s a country ripple on the air, Clay and Sam’s voices bolstering one another, on this heartfelt ode to a best friend through good times and bad. Mapache never rush, always sauntering slow, soaking in every detail around them and this new album aims to keep that feeling in tact. The band paid a visit to their frequent collaborator and producer Dan Horne, hunkering down a Horne’s Lone Palm Studio for the recording of Roscoe’s Dream. They enlist another West Coast luminary as well, in the form of Farmer Dave Scher of Beachwood Sparks on melodica and lap steel on a couple tracks. The new double-LP arrives June 10th from the band’s new home at Innovative Leisure.
