Jeff Unfortunately – “Don’t Make Me Dream”

Solo tributary from one of my Northeast faves, Bridge of Flowers. Holed up alone in the studio, songwriter Jeffrey Gallagher goes by the handle of Jeff Unfortunately. Riding the free folk lines from Michael Hurley to Akron/Family, Jeffrey Gallagher has carved out a quavering niche for himself over the past few years. Album opener, “Don’t Make Me Dream” ambles along on unhurried guitar, laying back into the tall grasses to muse in hypnotic call and response with his own psyche. Reassuring himself that he’s unhitched from the past, the song has a sweet sadness to it, a shaky ache that’s a marked departure from the noise of Flowers’ more noisy fare. The song kicks things off on the new album, Bridge Over Troubled Flowers, out July 11th from ESP-Disk.
