James Brandon Lewis Trio – “Prince Eugene”

James Brandon Lewis has been an integral part of some site favorites over the past few years — Mendoza Hoff Revels, The Messthetics, Alan Braufman’s Infinite Love Infinite Tears — but its nice to see him back at the head of a trio for his latest. The new record pairs Lewis with Chad Taylor (drums/mbira) and Josh Werner (bass/guitar), a formidable lineup that found the three working off of one another in the studio. The second peek into the album is “Prince Eugene,” a cut that courses with rhythm, finding Lewis sparring with Taylor’s drums and a smattering of kalimba.
