Humdrum – “Eternal Blue”
Every single out of the upcoming Humdrum album hits like a wave of nostalgia wrapped in soft focus ‘80s earmarks. The band’s jangle-pop blends strums and synths into the kind of heartache hits that have had a resurgence with The Reds, Pinks and Purples and Business of Dreams. New single “Eternal Blue” swaps out the caffeinated cool of their early cuts for something with a bit more melt. Soaked in sighs and a propulsive drum machine beat, the song skews a bit more 4AD-era Modern English than the college rock ripple of their first two singles. The video nods to the time period as well, cutting and pasting Thrashin’ into a collage of skate tricks and smoldering looks, making for a pretty fitting backdrop. The new record, Every Heaven, is out October 18th from Slumberland.
