Howlin’ Rain – “Burn Down”
If you were quick, during the high pandemic in 2020, you might have grabbed a preview of this rarities album from Howlin Rain. It was a part of the early Bandcamp artist relief efforts, but was gone almost as quickly as it appeared. Now worked into its final form, remastered and fleshed out with more tracks, the band has announced a 3xLP version of Lost at Sea: Rarities, Outtakes and Other Tales From the Deep. The album culls never before heard songs from The Russian Wilds, The Dharma Wheel, The Alligator Bride, Mansion Songs, Live Rain and the lost Ethan Miller Band sessions. While its parts are sourced from disparate sessions, the record is put together like a studio album and retains the highs of many of the aforementioned full lengths.
New single “Burn Down” was culled from The Dharma Wheel sessions, and like previous highlight “Annabelle,” it features Scarlet Rivera (Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue) on violin. The song soars, digging into the same scarred Amaericana that Dharma Wheel perfected. The full album is packed with originals and some surprising covers from The Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead, Leon Russell and Neil Merryweather. The album is out November 29th from Silver Current Records.
