Hayden Pedigo – “Long Pond Lily”

A beautiful new video slipped out yesterday from Hayden Pedigo, the first single off of his upcoming new album I’ll Be Waving As You Drive Away. Pedigo’s works always have an ebullient beauty to them; steeped in Americana, framing Western expanses with a cinematic sweep. Like fellow fingerstyle contemporaries William Tyler and Cameron Knowler, Pedigo’s works feel like a travelogue, and this time around the video is paired to match, a carnivalesque vignette of rural ritual. “Long Pond Lily” is as tranquil and tender as any in Hayden’s catalog, a softly rambling piece that slips through the veil of nostalgia. The new album, recorded with Scott Hirsch at his studio in Ojai, is the last in his “Motor Trilogy,” a triptych of albums begun with Letting Go. The albums all center on Hayden’s connections to his Texan roots in Amarillo, and this last one sews up the story with a contented sigh. The new record is out June 6th from Mexican Summer.
