Gray/Smith – “Verrazano Tile”
by Andy
This week sees the announcement of the sophomore LP from Gray/Smith. Like their contemporaries in APIE, the band finds a bit of comfort in the frayed ends of country, a kinship to the strung and wrung divisions of the ‘90s alt-rounders, and a solace in the burnt-out caricatures of ‘70s private press crowd. The first taste of the album lets the listener in slow, one of a few instrumentals that dot the upcoming Heels in the Aisle. “Verrazano Tile” ponders the dawn light linger, playing into the patient guitar ripple that was prevalent on the pair’s debut. It’s just the first slip into the serpentine serenity of the band’s upcoming record for Blank Forms. Heels in the Aisle is out October 4th.
