Grace Cummings – “On and On”
Consistently one of the most alluring exports from Australia, Grace Cummings’ debut of powerful folk was an instant classic around here. She followed up with the more diverse and electric Storm Queen in 2022. The album found Grace embracing pop that toyed with the drama of the ‘70s, drenched in blood and sequins. Now she pairs with producer Jonathan Wilson (Angel Olsen, Father John Misty, Margo Price) for an album that’s pushing the pop angle even further. With the storm tempered beneath her, “On and On” lets Grace’s powerful voice linger in the air, curling around the smoke and satin of the song’s opulent build. It feels restrained until the latter quarter when Cummings lets go the reigns and burns through the speakers with her full force. The new album, Ramona, is out April 5th from ATO.
