Elijah McLaughlin & Caleb Willitz – “Vesper Pt. 1 & Pt. 2”
Nice to wake up to a sonic treat from Centripetal Force this morning. The label announces a new collaborative record from Elijah McLaughlin & Caleb Willitz. The pair have been working together for some time, with Willitz producing and shaping sound around McLaughlin’s Ensemble records, but this is the first time he appears above mantle. The record is introduced with a two-part suite that finds the pair furthering their collaborative spirit, with the first part featuring drummer Charles Rumback and the second lacing in contributions from saxophonist Edward Wilkerson Jr. and clarinet player Jason Stein. The double set is an excellent introduction to the record, establishing the album’s tempestuous spirit and appetite for rhythm. The new record, Morning Improvisations / Evening Abstractions is out June 7th from Centripetal Force.
