Dummy – “Ethereal Security Guard”

Long running favorites Dummy have bloomed from home-recorded roots into some of the most adventurous purveyors of propulsive pop out there. Before their lauded albums for Trouble In Mind, the band introduced themselves with a pair of EPs. The EPs, originally reissued as Dumb EPs, are being given the expanded treatment as the band gears up for an East Coast tour, both solo and with Soccer Mommy. Today, one of those bonus cuts is let loose, with an EP2-era cut showcasing the band’s ambient side. “Ethereal Security Guard” lives up to the the title’s descriptor, floating high in the ether with nods to kosmiche legend Harald Grosskopf. The song gets a rare vocal turn from the band’s Joe Trainor, weaving between the plumes of synth and fog before submerging his voice back into the haze. The expanded version is out in August, from Perennial Death. Alongside “E.S.G.” the set will feature additional tracks, “Oceanographer,” and “Gentle Decoder.” East Coast dates begin in September.
