Drugdealer feat. Weyes Blood – “Real Thing”
It’s hard not to be captivated by Drugdealer and Weyes Blood. The pair have been collaborating for years, and it seems that Michael Collins has never quite found another muse or musician that’s as attuned to his ‘70s slink as Natalie Mering. For “Real Thing,” the pair dip back into the twilight vibrations — smeared rain and taillights, the smoke in the atmosphere curling like rumination and regret. Every note of the pair’s collaboration hits like lipstick left on the glass, a constant reminder of someone even after they’re gone. It’s that pit of the stomach ache that Drugdealer and Weyes Blood capture so well. Plenty can work through the pastiche of the ‘70s, but it takes talent to make it timeless. The new single is out now from Mexican Summer. Recorded over the course of two years, this one was definitely worth the wait.
