Doe St – “The Old Guard”

Not a lot of shouts this side of the world, but the February album from Aussies Doe St struck a chord over here. The band follows pretty quickly with a new single that keeps the insistent torch that was lit on their eponymous LP burning. “The Old Guard’ pounds through a scorched, but loose vision of punk, leaning into progressive politics. It comes as no shock that the band covers classic Aussie first wavers The Saints on the flip, taking on the band’s “Lost and Found.” The home-recorded single shows no signs of fidelity slip, feeling immediate, but still towering with a largeness that was present in the LP. The two tracks feel made for each other, and at a pay as you wish, this one should be an instant grab!
