Carson McHone – “It’s All Right Now”

Still catching up a bit from a crazy week last week, but this one caught my ear on Friday. Carson McHone has been around these parts plenty before, usually as a vital part of Daniel Romano’s Outfit. In the last few years she’s amassed an excellent collection of solo records as well and now a new EP full of covers adds a little shading to her influences. With covers by Conway Twitty, Arthur Russell, and the MC5, it finds McHone, along with members of The Outfit, giving her personal stamp to some cemented classics. The latest is a cover from Margo Guryan, giving the original’s soft whisper a kick as she gets to the end, adding in the full band for a rousing close. The new EP, ODES, is out now from Merge Records.
