Cactus Lee – “Sister”

Last year was another solid runner from Austin singer-songwriter Cactus Lee. Kevin Dehan has been operating under the name for a few years yet, letting out low-key country killers that let private press simplicity ripen in the sun. With a full band outing last year for ORG, the songwriter stepped up the production and it sounded good on him. He paired Caravan with a more homegrown collection, Big Red, that kept the croons but eschewed the big arrangements. This year he’s back again with a new single for Western Vinyl balancing the boldness of the Caravan sound and the intimate nature of Big Red. The single’s a breezy country ramble with the band in tow, paring sweetly stung guitar with a gallop of percussion and a cool down of background coos. It’s just a taste of something new, but from it feels like it’s gonna be another good year for Cactus Lee.
