Ben Chasny & Rick Tomlinson – “Waking of Insects” 
A convergence of two of psych-folk’s most long running heralds surfaces today. Boasting two of the most distinctive names of the genre – Ben Chasny of Six Organs of Admittance and Rick Tomlinson of Voice of the Seven woods have long nurtured a friendship and mutual admiration for each other’s work. That it took this long for them to collaborate might simply be a matter of time and distance, but after a stay at Tomlinson’s during a Six Organs tour the idea manifested into reality. The resulting record finds both guitarists pairing their distinctive strums, winding strings into a hypnotic tapestry of folk. All the tracks were recorded in one take, with the titles stemming from translations from the Chinese book, The Dream Pool Essays. “Waking of Insects” lulls the listener into a mossen alcove alive with earthen smells, filtered light, and hues of green. The duo’s new record Waves is out June 16th from Rick’s Voix Records, available in the US via Ben’s Hermit Hut imprint.
