A bittersweet note on a career cut too short arrives this week as the final album from Patrick Doyle (Veronica Falls, Boys Forever) is announced under the name Basic Plumbing. “Constant Attention” retains a lot of crossover with his well-known roots in Veronica Falls. While it’s pared down and ducking away from the multi-part harmonies of that group there’s a similar sense of melancholy and a wealth of carefree strums that inhabit the song. The jangles pluck in subdued hues, spinning ‘round and ‘round with the vocals and chasing one another for dominance over the drums. This seems like its just a peek behind the curtain of Doyle’s pop and I can’t wait to hear the rest.
