The Umbrellas – “She Buys Herself Flowers”

A real gem out of San Francisco today, “She Buys Herself Flowers” is the first single off of The Umbrellas debut LP for Slumberland. Practically built to be released by the label, the song radiates the same effortless sunshine as Heavenly or Tallulah Gosh with a Byrdsian tangle of guitars tying it together. Propelled by summer breeze harmonies and a crackle of drums, the song is indie pop at its most endearing. The West Coast has been the site to beat this year for new jangles and this upcoming eponymous LP ought to be on the lists of fans who’ve already stuffed their shelves with The Reds, Pinks and Purples and are just waiting on The Telephone Numbers and Massage records to show up in their mailboxes. The record is out August 6th from Slumberland.
