Sonny & The Sunsets – “The Lonely Men”

Avatar

Another crack opens in the door to Sonny & the Sunsets’ next album, a country rambler that calls back to his excellent Longtime Companion. Fittingly the new single focuses on loneliness, and the well of evil and wrongdoing that’s sprung out of broken, lonesome feelings without proper reconciliation or mediation. The song starts quiet, just a small strum of guitar, but it builds to a full ramble, with pedal steel and the clip of drums behind Sonny’s bone-dry delivery. He’s on some Leonard Cohen, Lee Hazelwood, Bill Callahan territory here. I’ve always had a soft spot for Sonny in country mode and its great to hear him back in those arms once again. The new record, New Day With New Possibilities, is out July 30th on his own Rocks in Your Head Records.
