Slift – “Heavy Road (Levitation Sessions)”

Avatar

I’ve been a bit slack in covering all the great Levitation Sessions that have been released in the last year. In the absence of live music, the festival has been producing a run of excellent sessions from Osees, Black Angels, Dead Meadow, and Fuzz with a session on the way from Ty Segall’s Freedom band and now this one from Slift. One of the best parts of the series is the pairing of band’s with sweeping locales that make missing out in person feel a bit better with the grandness of the setting. For this one Sliftwas recorded and filmed at the CEMES laboratory, in Toulouse, south of France. The structures are the top of an old particle microscope. “The sound turns infinitely in this sphere of aluminum. We wanted to confront our songs with this environment full of endless echoes and noises,” note the organizers. For their part Slift absolutely prove that the bounds of their records are made to be broken, giving themselves over fully to the live space. Check out a crushing version of “Heavy Road,” and get set for the full set on June 5th.
