Sean Thompson’s Weird Ears – “Saturday Drive”

Avatar

Been waiting on an announcement of the debut album from Sean Thompson’s Weird Ears ever since the excellent Time Has Grown A Raspberry EP slipped out a few years back. In the interim Sean has found himself playing with a ton of familiar RSTB names and churning out some vital singles in the process. With a move to the always excellent Curation Records, Thompson offers up “Saturday Drive,” the first taste of the new album, and a perfect accompaniment to labelmates Pacific Range or fellow travelers Tobacco City, The Pink Stones or Keven Louis Lareau. With a good dose of New Riders, Burritos, and Lost Planet Airmen filling the sails, this one picks up the cosmic country ramble with the best of the current wave. Some familiar faces round out the roster here as well, with a trio of friends from Teddy & The Rough Riders doubling as Weird Ears and Spencer Cullum Jr. lending pedal steel. The new album is out this spring, and suffice it to say it lies atop the Raven most anticipated list.
