Scott Hirsch – “Spirit True”

Avatar

Another track rolls in from one of my most anticipated records of the year, Scott Hirsch’s Windless Day. Hirch’s last album was a total favorite around here and the new album expands on his dusted country, Americana, and ‘70s jukebox pounders. The opener for the new album, “Spirit True,” sees Hirsch return to the JJ Cale cool that he’s wrangled in the past, shuffling into view on dive bar dancefloor drums, an afternoon sunset of sax, and Scott’s smoke ring sigh in the vocals. This one is a perfect after work comedown that feels as refreshing as a cold drink on a hot day. Hirsch has an effortless feel for classic songs that feel like you might have always known them, an AM gold divining rod that drives the record just as expertly as the last. The new record is out October 8th from Hirsch’s own Echo Magic Records.
