Scott Hirsch – “Much Too Late”

Avatar

One of the great unheralded treasures of 2018 was Scott Hirsch’s Lost Time Behind The Moon. The record distilled a dusted Americana, funneling JJ Cale’s dry ice delivery and dark sunshine through a cracked prism. It seems that today Hirsch is back at it once again with the late night shuffle of “Much Too Late.” With that same cold butter slide of guitar and Hirsch’s smoke ring vocals, the track stalks through the speakers, relaxed but ready to lay out anyone looking to ruffle the situation. The song was written with Mike Coykendal, known for his duties as a sideman and producer via his work with M Ward, Blitzen Trapper, and She & Him. The pair give the song a cold humidity that’s disarming, yet discomfiting. It’s every bit the kind of follow-up one would hope for Lost Time. The new record, Windless Day, is out October 8th via Echo Magic.
