Russell Hoke – “I Have A Gift”

Some nice homespun stringwork out of the Round Bale Stable this week. In 2016, the folks at the label culled together a double cassette collection of the works of Russell Hoke, having thought that the artist was stepping away from recording for good. It seemed like a nice sendoff for Russell and a necessary overview of the artist’s work. However its seems that Russell wasn’t quite finished. Though he’d sold off his guitar and banjo some years prior, the artist borrowed instruments from friends and has recorded The Melancholy Traveler and the simple, serene folk songs that are contained therein seem like the salve that 2021 needs to work through the wounds of 2020. The Melancholy Traveler is out February 26th from Round Bale.
