Psychic Temple – “Planet Caravan”

Avatar

Seems like I’ll have to make space for two favorite versions of “Planet Caravan” in 2022. After the extended winddown of Tuluum Shimmering’s version from earlier in the month, Chris Shlarb and Psychic Temple make good on their offer to cover the song. Along with a companion 12” that tackles “Music For Airports,” the new EP pairs up an extended, jazz-psych cover of the Sabbath Classic with new music from the band on the flip. The band’s deep, sinewy cover of the song ranks pretty highly with any attempts to capture the spirit of one of metal’s most aqueous cuts. Schlarb and his assembled players riff on the theme and make it their own, turning turning the lost longing of the original into something with a bit more early morning mist in its eyes. Both this and the Airports 12” land on Big Ego October 21st and can be ordered separately or as companion pieces.
