Martin Courtney – “Corncob”

Loving what’s happening on the periphery of Real Estate these days. With Alex joining up with Taper’s Choice, taking the cosmic jam route and now Martin offering up a country-soaked new single ahead of an upcoming sophomore solo album. “Corncob pushes away from the loner indie of his first outing without the rest of the Estate. Feeling in line with a few of the West Coast strummers these days, from Mapache to Shulman Smith. The sun-beaten recline of the song is apt, but it pushes away from Real Estate’s more cable knit closeness. Rather than bundled against the world, this one seems open and inviting, tumbling keys and pedal steel shining up Courtney’s strums into a new environment for the songwriter. The new album, Magic Sign, is out June 24th from Domino.
