John Dwyer, Ryan Sawyer, Andres Renteria – “More Will Be Revealed”

Following a number of jazz and improv combos stemming from his 2020 Bent Arcana release, (though in my opinion reaching back to his 2010 Sword and Sandals days), John Dwyer has cycled through half a dozen lineups that scratch at the wounds of psych and free jazz. For his latest, he pares down the crew to a lean and limber trio that focuses on percussion as it’s driving force. Posh Swat has been unfolding over the last few weeks and the latest leap into his playground of pummel comes in the form of “More Will Be Revealed.” The cut skitters with hand percussion and trap set against electronic washes, with both Ryan Sawyer & Andres Renteria rounding out the lineup. Both have appeared in various lineups behind the kit in the past few years, but here the trio whittle out a syncopated landscape that’s heavy that distorts and distends at Dwyer’s will. The new record is out February 17th on Rock is Hell.
