Ibex Clone – “There Is No Light”

On their sophomore LP, Memphis newcomers Ibex Clone cull together members of a few longstanding critical faves — Ex-Cult, NOTS, and Hash Redactor. Where all of those outfits often wade into the noisier end of the punk and indie pool, it came as a bit of a surprise that the first album from Ibex Clone was a bit more tempered. For the follow-up, the band have tightened the sound and added a more vibrant crunch to the mix than was present on From Nowhere. The second single from the band’s latest finds the trio washing the aftertaste of Guided by Voices and Sugar out of their teeth, breathing new life into mid-tempo torrents of fuzz. The band’s new record All Channels Clear is out February 3rd from Goner Records.
