George Is Lord – “If I Needed Someone”


The steady stream of sunshine keeps rolling out of George Harrison tribute outfit George Is Lord. Headed by Anna Pomerantz, the outfit features Sam Blassucci (Mapache), a pop-in from Dean Wareham (Luna, Galaxie 500) and production from Papercuts’ Jason Quever. The collection covers Harrison from early works to solo stints, highlighting the many shades of George along the way. The band blisses out the rosy, slightly rippled Rubber Soul cut here, not really tweaking the original too much, but amplifying its understated charms. There’s a bit more of an autumnal air on GIL’s take, but ultimately it’s Harrison’s songwriting that shines though. The album, My Sweet George, is out on Friday from Curation Records.
