George is Lord – “Behind That Locked Door”

Curation Records keep serving up the goods and this latest sees Sam Balsucci from Mapache tackle the songs of George Harrison as George Is Lord. Along with Anna Pomerantz on vocals and production from Jason Quever, the band takes on the soft country sighs of “Behind That Locked Door” as a first taste of the album. Much like the original the pace remains hushed, the tone autumnal and contemplative. Anna’s vocals hang a different shade of sunshine on the track than Harrison, keeping this from being a straightforward copy of the original, but the aims of the band ring true. It shines another light on the understated songwriting that made Harrison’s solo work’s such enduring classics. The final release date on the upcoming LP is still TBD, but if the rest is as lovely as this first taste, its gonna be worth the wait.
