Emily Rose and the Rounders – “The Drifter”

Avatar

A new double-A single out this week from RSTB faves Emily Rose & the Rounders finds the songwriter digging into the darker side of her sound. “The Drifter” channels a weather-beaten soul through the last-call colors of the country canon. The song ambles slow and sunken, a tale of soured love and bitter-pill resolve that’s paired with sunset strums and a mournful slide that’s sumptuous enough to let the listener recline in its open arms. Rose’s strident vocals bear a sense of dejection, but not regret. The song’s paired with a slightly lighter counterpart, embracing a bluegrass sway. Tough the banjo plucks and barroom sway give it a bit of levity, the single shares stock in the melancholy that pervades the flip, making for a welcome pair of hard drinkers and deep sigh sources of comfort. The single is out now with more music teased to be on the way soon.
