Eli Winter – “For a Chisos Bluebonnet”

Avatar

Lotta goodness happening in the instrumental sphere today and the news of a new Eli Winter album on the way only cements that fact. Winter’s last few records have been a lovely tangent in fingerpicked folk, encroaching on jazz, country, post-rock, folk, and bluegrass but never letting his heart settle fully into genre. For his latest, he brings back some familiar faces like Cameron Knowler, who’s been a collaborative foil for years, but adds in a packed crew of new faces including Yasmin Williams, David Grubbs, Ryley Walker, Tyler Damon, jaimie branch, Jordan Reyes, Whitney Johnson, and more. The first peek into the new world of Winter is the rambling country sway of “For a Chisos Bluebonnet.” The song melts into pedal steel and floats on Winter’s sunshine tangle of strings, a fuller vision of sound than he’s ever approached before. The eponymous new record finds its way out August 19th as his first for Three Lobed.
