Dan Horne – “Ode To The Road”

Avatar

Got a new cosmic country gem from West Coast staple Dan Horne. While Horne’s name might not be on the tip of tongues everywhere he’s made time in bands like Circles Around the Sun, The Skiffle Players and the widely loved Grateful Shred. Behind the boards Dan is a key producer for the new wave of Cosmic Americana, having helmed releases by Mapache, Pacific Range, and Allah-Lahs. Following up his solo debut from last year, The Motorcycle EP, Dan’s new single is a celebration of life in the van, schedule issues, empty rooms, and slim riders. Horne makes it all sound fun even as he rattles off woes, lending a sunburned quality to the trials and tribulations of tour life. Atop a breeze rocked sway, cut through with auburn slides and harmonica hop, the song’s got a bit of New Riders and Beachwood in its veins. This feels like a good start to what Dan’s got in store down the road. Hopin’ that this leads to more from Horne above the fold and not just behind the desk. In the meantime, though, he’s got a run of dates on the West Coast, which are recommended if you’re out that way.
